How to Forward Launch a Paraglider
The first step is to lay out your paraglider in a nice symmetrical pattern exactly straight into the wind.
This is going to help the glider inflate perfectly over you as you are running. You are also going to maintain the horseshoe pattern so that first part is going to come up first.
Now that you have the glider facing the wind and you are in the forward position also facing in to the wind.
You are going to reach up under you risers, as you do that that you are going to grab your brake on the way through.
Remember to reach behind then under.
Then you going to place just your A riser in your palm. The rest of your risers are just going to drape over your arm.
You will need to step back so you are not dragging your glider as you are doing this.
Do the exact same thing with your other arm remembering to reach up under the risers.
Now you are in the position to launch.
There are a couple of things to remember when you are doing a forward launch.
First, the power from your forward is going to come from your hips.
So you are going to be running and pulling.
So think of it as pulling from your carabineers.
Your A’s and your hands are not doing any of the work.
Your hands are just there to guide your A’s.
So just keep your hands and palm open so you are not tempted to pull on your A’s or anything.
You actually want to pull your risers all the way and push them back behind you, so you are not pushing back upon the A’s.
Then you are going to look behind you and make sure your lines are symmetrical on both sides and that you are straight with the wing.
You are going to take just a half step back then you are going to run forward as fast as you can.
Remember to pull with your hips.
Once the wing is over your head, let the risers in your hands go, put your brakes back into torpedo position and check both tips to make sure that they are open.
